Dayna Brons Honorary Award Nominees

Nominee: Lleyton Moore

Lleyton Moore

Lleyton Moore is the longest serving Player Ambassador to be nominated for the 2022-23 Dayna Brons Honorary Award. Spending most of his junior career with the Oshawa Generals Lleyton was traded to the Kitchener Rangers late in the 2022-23 season; adding offence to the Rangers blue line and helping the team advance to the second round of the OHL playoffs. 

Lleyton showed tremendous leadership at a young age, joining Hockey Gives Blood as a 17-year-old in the early days of the program. Leyton helped grow the program across the OHL through numerous blood and stem cell drives. During the off season, Lleyton would donate blood and consistently spread the message of the need for blood. This past season, Lleyton created a fundraising initiative that raised over $1000 in support of Canadian Blood Services.

Lleyton is a reliable and responsive ambassador that consistently demonstrates his selflessness and kindness;  traits that Dayna Brons was also known for.  Lleyton’s actions and contributions over this extended period have had a significant impact on patients in Canada and we are thrilled to announce him as nominee. Nominee: Alex Pharand

Alex Pharand

Alex Pharand is doing more than just play for his hometown Sudbury Wolves, he is also making an impact as a Hockey Gives Blood Player Ambassador. At just 17 years old, Alex provides a tremendous example of dedication and passion that demonstrate his capacity as a leader. Alex was a steady contributor of Plasma this season, donating an astonishing 12 times. Plasma is a component of blood that can be used to provide life-saving medicines to patients across Canada. 

Aside from donating plasma on his own, Alex helped lead a team plasma donation event, inspired a handful of his teammates to join Canadian Blood Services stem cell registry and appeared on an episode of Difference Makers with Sportsnet personality Sam Cosentino. During this Instagram Live episode Alex spoke passionately about his role as a player ambassador and articulated just how easy it is to save a life. 

Alex possesses many genuine qualities such as leadership, commitment, and dependability. Perhaps the one quality he shares most with Dayna Brons would be his unwavering selflessness. Thank you, Alex, and congratulations on your nomination. 

Nominee: Logan Stankoven

Logan Stankoven

While Logan was scoring highlight reel goals and putting up points as captain of the Kamloops Blazers, he was also giving back to his hometown community. This past season, Logan committed many hours to his role as a Hockey Gives Blood Player Ambassador using his platform to make a positive contribution to Canadians. 

In a year which Canadian Blood Services was in an immediate need for blood, Logan helped in a big way with his essential efforts. These efforts included hosting a community blood drive, encouraging teammates to donate blood and surprising a minor hockey team who hosted a blood drive of their own. Additionally, Logan filmed videos in support of the ‘Be A Hero' stem cell campaign and raised over $41,000 in support of Canadian Blood Services during his Logan Stankoven Charity Night.

Logan’s genuine nature and overall kindness are equal to the competitiveness and determination he so well known for on the ice. His humility, sacrifice and selflessness are traits that that Dayna was also known for and ones that make him a role model for all.
